Climate Change and Greenhouse Gases Definition

Instead, it ratified the Paris Deal under President Obama, only for Trump to proclaim that he would like to withdraw from the agreement.
In a polarised political climate, passing legislation to decrease greenhouse gas emissions has proved difficult. However, federal and state governments have devised specific legal frameworks for addressing the issue despite the obstacles.

President Donald Trump’s latest executive measures have harmed US climate change legislation. The Clean Power Plan was repealed by Trump’s “Energy Independence” executive order at the Environmental Protection Agency in March 2017. The Clean Air Act required the Plan, which set state-by-state carbon emission reduction goals and projected a reduction in national energy sector emissions of 32% below 2005 levels by 2050. As part of the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement, the US committed to reducing GHG emissions by 26 percent to 28 percent below 2005 levels by 2025. Trump has stated that he intends to withdraw from the agreement, but this will not take effect until December 2020. So, the pledge remains in effect.
However, the burden of proof on cities, governments, businesses, and other groups to cut emissions has shifted. This declaration consists of an open letter signed by over 2,600 world leaders pledging to “support climate action” in order to achieve the Paris Agreement’s goal of lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Many states have established carbon reduction goals, with California leading the charge. As of 2014, 32 states and a large number of municipal governments had embraced climate change policies, with others enacting enforceable GHG emission restrictions.
